The word Maroon is derived from the Spanish word “cimarron” which means wild, untamable and was used to describe enslaved Africans who escaped bondage. We celebrate the maroons for their bravery, their cunning and their ability to bring the powerful European powers to the table to negotiate.

For too long history making women have been left out of the textbooks, with this updated The Original Maroon 5 design we make a course correction. We chose 5 prominent maroon warrior queens from the diaspora that fought, resisted, sabotaged or ran away from their European colonizers.
