This powerful design represents heroic figures in the Maroon communities of Jamaica, Brazil and Haiti.
The word Maroon is derived from the Spanish word “cimarron” which means wild, untamable and was used to describe enslaved Africans who escaped bondage. We celebrate the maroons for their bravery, their cunning and their ability to bring the powerful European powers to the table to negotiate.
